Week 43: Smartians, cloud-connected little motors

Disclaimer: the rights of the pictures belong to the owner of the picture. Do you want your pictures removed from our blogpost, let us know.

What are Smartians?

A product that enables users to retrofit their existing home appliances, turning them into smart ones. No more waste, and the
benefit of complete flexibility – you become the creator, and can be as inventive as you want. Smartians are cloud-connected, smart actuators that let you control your home from wherever you are. They consist of a small motor, onto which you can add a
dozen different add-ons. Each add-on converts the movement of the motor into a different motion to enable you to press buttons, turn knobs, pull strings and move objects. You are only limited by your imagination! They work remotely through the app, which enables you to set timers and even make routines – for instance, switch on your heater and open your blinds every morning before you even get out of bed. By using IFTTT, you can also integrate Smartians with other services and devices such as Google Home or Amazon
Echo. Smartians are made both for those who love to hack things, as well as people
who just want to improve their old devices as easily as possible (source).

Week 42: LifeStraw, your personal waterfilter

Disclaimer: the rights of the pictures belong to the owner of the picture. Do you want your pictures removed from our blogpost, let us know.

What is Lifestraw?

LifeStraw® water filters convert contaminated water into clean, safe drinking water. The easy-to-use filters are a vital tool for some of the 780 million people who don’t have ready access to safe drinking water. This leaves them at risk for diarrheal disease, which kills more than 1.5 million people every year. Safe drinking water is especially important for vulnerable groups, such as children under five, pregnant women and people living with HIV. LifeStraw® water filters also prevent cryptosporidiosis, a major cause of diarrheal illness in people living with HIV and children under five1. LifeStraw® water filters comply with US Environmental Protection (EPA) 1987 Guide Standard and Protocol for Testing Microbiological Water Purifiers. Each product in the LifeStraw® portfolio is designed for a specific situation where safe water is needed but not readily available. LifeStraw offers specific products for international health and development as well as products sold to consumers for outdoor recreation, travel and daily hydration (source).

What is Panggies?

PANGGIES is the combination of Pancakes and Veggies! We are aware that the vegetable consumption of an average Dutch child is below the recommended intake level. And with the limited choices for kid products in healthy section, we, PANGGIES, want to bring an alternative change with our simple, healthy and convenient meal alternative that increases children’s vegetable intake and saves parents’ time. PANGGIES, is a cooperative of six Food Technology bachelor students from the University of Applied Sciences ‘Van Hall Larenstein’ in Velp, Netherlands. We offer vegetable pancake mixes targeting the families with young children. And our selling channels are through ecommerce and local retailers, while providing online customer support via social media, email and our website. (source).
